And So It Goes

This is so fantastically silly.

Thenewno2

I want to tell you about how much I absolutely love this band. Mostly because, I can’t lie, Dhani Harrison looks and sounds incredibly (and eerily) similar to George. But their music is good and I really enjoy listening to it. I’m not any kind of  music critic at all, but I recommend that you give a listen to some of their songs. Check out the music videos below.

Bob

It’s like this song was made just for my blog, sung entirely in palindromes. Enjoy. Just don’t let Weird Al’s attempt at a Bob Dylan impression get to you.

Songs of the 90′s

britTonight, my roommate and I were watching a VH1 special”Top 100 Songs of the 90′s.” Apparently, I really missed out. I knew maybe one out of every five songs they played. nsyncIn the 90′s, when everyone else was into boy bands, Britney Spears, grunge bands, and hip-hop artists like Tupac and Jay-Z, I could be found listening to songs that were popular before my parents were born.

100.1-Classic Oldies. My favorite station. I would sing along with songs by The Beach Boys, The Animals, The Platters and other artists from the 1950s and 60s. And of course, I developed my ever-growing love and adoration for The Beatles, beatles2without which my life would be incomplete. From there, my music taste evolved into more of a classic rock preference, and I even do *occasionally* listen to a current artist. But don’t expect me to know more than a few top hit songs at any one time.

So, yeah. I missed out on songs like “Bye Bye Bye,” “Oops, I Did it Again,” or “MMMBop,” but just between you and me, I really don’t feel like I missed out on that much. :)

Going home tomorrow, can’t wait! It’s been a long, hellacious week.

First Music Video

Back in the 1980s, “Video Killed the Radio Star” became the first music video to be aired on television.

Growing up in the middle of nowhere, I had no cable, satellite, or internet with which I could watch any music videos. My family finally got dial-up when I was in middle school, but it was so slow I could hardly dream of watching a movie and wasn’t allowed on for very long anyway because it tied-up the phone line.

So it was that I didn’t see my first music video until I was in high school. I was staying the night at a friend’s house and we were watching cable tv, which always fascinated me (and still does!) because I was used to receiving no more than 5 or 6 channels. There was some top 25 music video countdown or something like that being aired on MTV when we were flipping through the channels, so this became the first music video I ever watched.

There’s a wee bit of difference between the two I’d say, but both still firsts for music videos, in my mind at least.
